Bypass
So my bff’s husband, who is also a great friend is undergoing gastric bypass surgery. He’s scheduled for Dec 29! He went in for his final appointment today and they ordered a bunch of tests and basically told him what to expect. They also told him to start a liquid diet now and stay on it till, obviously after the surgery. They told him it was optional but that most people feel better after surgery when they’ve done the liquid diet beforehand. I guess it makes sense. It would suck to go cold turkey…mmm…turkey! (bad joke) But it’s supposed to get your body kind of used to it. Also they want him to lose as much weight as he can before surgery. I don’t know if I’m explaining this right but they said that your liver is fatty. So when you lose weight rapidly, your liver shrinks. If his liver shrinks enough, then they can do the bypass laproscopically, if not, then they will have to do the traditional surgery when they open you up.
He’s nervous, excited, happy, anxious…all of the above! So is his wife, my bff, once he’s done, she’s next! Major life changes! By no means an easy decision. They are both young (her 30 and him under 30) and they both have major health problems which led them to the decision.
They both have about 200lbs to lose. That makes my 50 seem like nothing!
But I will totally be supporting them. I have to, my eating buddies are no more!
But we will have one last fling! We are having a Last Supper party this weekend! We are making everything he wants, everything he will miss and everything that he won’t be able to have again! I am going to have to sacrifice and eat right along with him this weekend! lol
So now the menu planning is in full effect. After this weekend, I probably won’t want to eat ever again! lol RIGHT! But I’m sure I will completely over do it, which in some ways is good. Maybe it will help.
I’ll let you know tomorrow what’s on the menu!
